All CRMA certificates expire every 2 years and must be renewed with an 8-hour recertification course to remain active. See the CRMA Recertification guidelines.
Course payment- $365/per student with a variety of payment options: PayPal, Venmo, CashApp, direct deposit or an emailed invoice to pay by check. We work with several grant funding/workforce services. The payor must email us with the student’s name and request a payment option. Even if the employer pays for the course, the CRMA certificate belongs to the student. The course also requires a separate “med pass” to be done with an RN at the workplace. If there is no RN available, we also provide this service with administrative approval in the Portland area for an additional $125 fee.
Topics of the Course:
Unit 1
Unit 2
Unit 3
Students must sign up for the course from our “join a course” link: https://forms.gle/dpnbfaZuGPRprAyz5
2. In-person quizzes/final exam (3 hours)- In-person testing sessions are required and offered monthly in South Portland and Lewiston, with specific locations/dates/times TBD depending on student/instructor availability. Active students and their employers with confirmation of course payment will gain access to our Google calendar to schedule a specific testing date/time.
Grading- The 3 unit quizzes and final exam include a combination of true/false, multiple choice and fill-in the blank questions, with a passing score of 80%. Grading is instant; specific details can be found on pg. 13 in the Introduction section of the official CRMA curriculum.
Unit 1 quiz- CRMA roles/rules, workplace regulations, infection control and vital signs
Unit 2 quiz- is the most challenging part of the course, as it includes a variety of different topics such as several medical abbreviations to remember, metric measurements, different ways meds are classified and identified, documentation policies and medication terms that may be new to you.
Unit 3 quiz- body systems (with a focus on heart and lungs) and includes a basic understanding of the primary body systems: cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, skeletal, muscular, digestive, endocrine, urinary, integumentary, lymphatic and reproductive.
Final exam- covers all 3 units
3. “The med pass” (2 hours)- “The med pass” is the student’s hands-on demonstration in the workplace to administer the resident’s actual meds, under the supervision of a registered nurse. It should be a meaningful learning experience to prepare the student to work independently and administer meds correctly. The student should know the meds they will be giving ahead of time, including the classification, reason for use of each med and potential side effects to watch for. If there is no RN available, we also provide this service in the Portland and Sanford area for a $125 fee.
“The CRMA skills checklist” must be utilized with the med pass to give 5-6 meds to one or more residents and be completed with a signature and date of both the student and RN preceptor. Email us the completed skills checklist, along with a separate copy of the RN’s license, all in PDF format to info@prohealthtrain.com.
After we receive your completed skills checklist and PDF copy of the RN preceptor’s license, it can generally take 3-5 business days for the student’s CRMA certificate to be processed by the State and appear on the Maine CRMA search portal.
The final step of completing the course- After all of the above is complete, it will be the student’s responsibility to verify their new CRMA certificate on the Maine CRMA portal from our website “certificate search” button before working as a CRMA.
To to tie it all together:
